Minnesota DFL Senate District 49 News!
April 2008
It has been a busy spring
so far for the activists of Senate District 49. February
brought record numbers of caucus attendees and in March we
had our SD 49 Endorsing Convention. But there is no time to
relax as the most important part of the election cycle is at
hand. We have two great candidates for the Minnesota House
and they will need plenty of help from all of us if they are
too win this fall.
Caucus night was somewhat
overwhelming because of the huge turnout. 2,000 local
citizens showed up to caucus with us. We were expecting
about 400 at the most and were frankly unprepared for the
human onslaught of that evening. But what a night it
was…Many old timers remarked on the excitement of seeing so
many democrats willing to brave long lines and limited
parking to have a say in the Presidential endorsement and to
help with party business. Many of our caucus attendees have
remained active becoming Precinct Chairs or Precinct
Associate Chairs, Directors or joining one of our
committees. We have a lot of great new Democratic talent to
help us succeed as a District.
The SD 49 March 15 Endorsing
convention went well thanks to our wonderful Convention
Chairs, J.P. Barone, and his wife Victoria Reinhart. They
did a marvelous job once again keeping things moving and
explaining the process which was so important with the large
numbers of new delegates. During the Convention our District
Officer Elections took place. Click on the officer link to
see who we are. Also 15 State Delegates were elected and
will take part in both the 3rd and 6th
Congressional District and DFL State Conventions.
The convention was expensive with
printing costs and food. Part of the cost is due to my over
estimating the attendance. So we now have some catching up
to do with fund raising. The good news is that we are
already busy working on our first 2008 fund raiser scheduled
for May 17 of this year. This event is titled “An Evening of
Surprises” and will take place at the Bunker Hills Regional
Park Activity Center Building from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. We are
working on some great guests and there will be lots of great
surprises and lots of fun for all. More details coming soon.
Please take time to go to our
candidate page and get to know our two MN House Candidates
and offer them help. They both have tough races ahead but
with both Republican Incumbents retiring we have a great
chance of turning SD 49 Blue this fall. Click on the
Candidate link on our website to find out more about these
two fine gentlemen.
We have a lot of new activists,
Chairs, Associate Chairs, directors and committee members
and we would like to welcome all of you and thank you for
your involvement. You are now part of a great group of
concerned citizens that want our government at all levels to
practice the great democratic principles that this nation
was built on, a government that represents all the citizens
not just the rich and powerful.
Finally I would like to thank our
past Secretary Julie Miller-Hays and past Affirmative Action
Officer and Webmaster Don Legge for the countless hours they
put in helping us make SD 49 such an active vital
organization. You will both be missed by all.
As always please call or mail me
with any comments, concerns, or questions.
