District 49 Legislative Watch
District 49 is being represented by GOP Senator Michele Benson and GOP State Representative Brandon Peterson and Peggy Scott – so far they have voted in tandem. Brandon and Peggy have voted to repeal the cap on carbon emissions – a good vote on the ecosystem but then they don’t believe in global climate change so it is OK.
All three have all voted for lifting the moratorium on building nuclear power plants – nice vote considering the disaster in Japan.
All three have voted to cut 185 million from higher education – our higher education system has been pointed to as our greatest economic and job producing engine. We get jobs in Minnesota because we have an educated workforce and we create jobs in Minnesota because of the research and development work at our colleges and universities. How much did the tuition costs go up in the last few years, well it will get worse.
All three have voted to cut 72 million from our mental health services – These people obviously do not need help from the general community.
All three have voted to reduce property tax aid by 566 million - Insuring that our property taxes will go up. Of course they pledged to not raise any taxes and of course they are not….directly.
