Minnesota DFL Senate District 49 News
First and foremost I would like to wish everyone a Happy Holiday Season!

We are nearing the most exciting time of the year for all good Democrats.
Every two years, for one evening in February, many of our local Democrats descend on the Andover High School to engage in their precinct caucus meetings. Each one of our 28 precincts will meet in an assigned class room to conduct important party business.

Senate District 49 is known as one of the most active Senate Districts in the State because of the efforts of a lot of great activists. Precinct Caucus is a great opportunity to become part of this movement. Please join us and your neighbors as we meet and conduct this most important party business.

The 2010 Precinct Caucus is coming up on February 2nd. Caucus registration will begin at 6:30pm at Andover High School. We will soon be posting additional Caucus and SD 49 Convention information on our website and face book group page. Each precinct meeting room location will be listed along with pertinent convention information. There will be links posted to the Secretary of State website that has a great precinct finder tool for those not sure what precinct they reside in. For those of you who survived the hectic 2008 caucus we expect a more orderly event this year and should not have 4 times our usual attendance like we did on that chaotic but exciting evening.
At each Precinct Caucus meeting attendees will elect Precinct Officers, SD 49 Convention Delegates and participate in a Gubernatorial Candidate Straw poll. Forms will be available for anyone wishing to submit a platform resolution. Some resolutions can make it all the way to the 2010 State Convention and if chosen will actually become part of the DFL’s official legislative platform. For a lot of great information on the Caucus and Convention process please visit the state DFL website at www.dfl.org. We will also be posting a schedule of caucus and convention training sessions on our website and face book page which is Minnesota DFL Senate District 49.

Our DFL Senate District 49 Convention will be held at the Coon Rapids High School on Saurday February 13th. Registration will begin at 8:00am and the convention will be called to order at 9:00am. Back by popular demand the Convention Chairs will be J.P. Barone and his wife Victoria Reinhardt. J.P. is Chair of the DFL 4th Congressional District and Victoria is a Ramsey County Commissioner.

A Senate District Convention can be a confusing process for first time attendees and J.P. and Victoria do a great job helping everyone through this process. J.P. actually makes this an entertaining event as he guides us through the bizarre walking sub-caucus election procedure. At the convention we will be electing Senate District Officers, State convention delegates and choosing who to endorse as our State House and Senate Candidates. We will hear from several Gubernatorial and congressional Candidates as well.

This is a chance to participate in local politics and really have a say in who represents you in the Minnesota House and Senate. Please take the time to help us with this huge undertaking. If you can help on a caucus or convention committee please contact me at the e-mail or number below. If you have any questions about this process please contact me or go on the State Website or visit our website in the coming weeks as we post more information . For those of you who did such a great job helping with the convention and caucus two years ago thank you so much because with out your efforts we would not have a local party structure with the great reputation that Senate District 49 has.

These Newsletters will become a monthly effort to keep those who visit our website informed about the projects, meetings, news, and events involving the Senate District 49.
